Part of a series of pieces exploring manually produced interpretations of electronic sounds. This simple contraption was inspired by the commonly used practice of adding audio imperfections to digitally produced music via tape hiss or record crackle. A clockwise rotation of the handle generates a persistent scraping/hissing sound. A slow anti-clockwise rotation creates more of a crackly effect. Elements of the building process also mirrored techniques used when modifying cassette tapes to create loops.
